Southwest Michigan is made up of distinct pockets of wine country, brewery hubs, and lakefront towns — each with its own personality and pace. To make exploring easier, we’ve organized the region into three curated zones, each featuring its own route of wineries, breweries, and must-see stops.

Whether you want rolling vineyard views, downtown tasting rooms, or Lake Michigan sunsets, there’s a route built for your kind of day.

North Route / Blue Star

Fennville • Douglas • Pullman • Saugatuck • South Haven

The North Route blends classic lake-town charm with some of the most scenic vineyard landscapes in the region. This area is known for its artistic vibe, rolling dunes, and elevated tasting experiences.

Here, you’ll find:

  • Boutique wineries tucked into quiet countryside settings

  • Craft breweries with patios perfect for warm-weather afternoons

  • Coastal towns like Saugatuck and South Haven, where you can pair tastings with lake views and shopping

This route is ideal for groups looking for a mix of relaxation, scenery, and a slightly more upscale, coastal feel.

Southwest Middle Route

St. Joseph • Benton Harbor • Coloma

The Southwest Middle Route is the heart of the region’s craft beverage scene. It offers a balance of waterfront energy, downtown culture, and easy access between stops.

Expect:

  • Vibrant downtown tasting rooms and breweries

  • Lake Michigan shoreline views in St. Joseph

  • Local craft beer spots with rotating seasonal releases

  • A laid-back, social atmosphere perfect for group outings

This route is great for those who want variety without long travel times between stops.

South / Red Arrow Route

Stevensville • Baroda • Buchanan • Bridgman • Sawyer • Union Pier • New Buffalo

The South Route is Southwest Michigan’s most well-known wine and brewery corridor. Stretching along the Red Arrow Highway, it’s packed with vineyards, craft breweries, and some of the most popular destinations in the region.

Highlights include:

  • Scenic winery clusters surrounded by orchards and farmland

  • Well-known tasting rooms and large vineyard estates

  • Craft breweries with expansive outdoor seating and live music

  • A strong “wine trail” feel with easy hopping between stops

This route is perfect for full-day experiences and larger group celebrations.
